Summer 2007; It’s almost 20 years
ago that I started to get really
interested in music. Seriously interested
even! Back in the mid-eighties
music-styles like Hiphop, Soul and vocal
club tracks were getting more and more
listening fans all over Holland. And it
didn’t leave unnoticed by myself either!
Radio shows like Ferry Maat’s Soulshow and
Avro’s 3 maal doordraai presented new and
hot club music and even paid attention to
DJ’s who played this kind of music night
in and night out. My interest in DJ-ing
was born!
Starting off with just a tape deck and a
single turntable (without pitch control!)
I took my first steps into the unknown
world of mixing and scratching. Through
parties at high school I started to get ‘a
feel for the crowd’. Always wanting to
improve my skills, I started joining
DJ-competitions. This resulted in a couple
of small awards that finally gave me the
opportunity to play at larger venues and
bigger crowds. During the nineties I
started my residency at Lorre, a student
club in my hometown Delft. This was also
the era that my interest in dance music
evolved into a wider spectrum of music. I
considered Hiphop to be dead and house
music was taking over the club scene.
Logically, this was the path to follow.
Besides having a residency at Lorre, I
started playing in famous clubs and
alongside Holland’s finest. Dimitri,
Marcello, DJ Jean, Ronald Molendijk,
Michel De Heij, 100% Isis, DJ Jurgen and
Erick E, to name but a few. Since 1990 I
have been playing over 300 gigs in venues
like Now & Wow, Melkweg, Asta and the
Buddha Bar and in countries such as
France, Germany, Belgium, the United
Kingdom and even Ibiza. This year I will
also begin with remixing tracks and
hopefully start some projects of my own.
